The House Committee on Oceans and Fisheries, chaired by Hon. Engr. Akarachi Etinosa Amadi, convened a strategic meeting yesterday with agencies under its purview to assess their 2024 budget performance and deliberate on their proposed budgets for the 2025 fiscal year.

The session, held at the National Assembly Complex, served as a platform for the agencies to present their achievements, challenges, and financial plans for the coming year. The committee emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and efficient resource allocation to drive sustainable growth in the oceans and fisheries sector.

Hon. Amadi highlighted the importance of these engagements, stating, “Our focus is to ensure that the resources allocated to this sector contribute meaningfully to the development of the blue economy, the empowerment of coastal communities, and the preservation of our marine resources.”

The agencies provided detailed breakdowns of their expenditures and outlined strategies to enhance operations in the coming year. Discussions also touched on fostering sustainable fishing practices, expanding aquaculture programs, and supporting coastal livelihoods.

The House Committee remains steadfast in its commitment to oversight, ensuring that the sector continues to play a vital role in Nigeria’s economic diversification and food security agenda.
