Hon. Engr. Akarachi Etinosa Amadi, Member representing Mbaitoli\/Ikeduru Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Ocean and Fisheries, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, led the consideration of two important committee reports on the floor of the House of Representatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fisheries education, research, and blue economy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenting the reports before the House, Hon. Amadi urged lawmakers to consider and approve the Committee’s recommendations on two bills seeking to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act, 2004. The first bill proposes the establishment of the Brackish Water Fisheries Research Institute, Ngo, Rivers State<\/strong>, while the second seeks to establish the Federal College of Fisheries Technology and Marine Engineering, Ngo, Rivers State<\/strong>. Both institutions are designed to expand Nigeria’s capacity in fisheries research, innovation, technical education, and manpower development. The institute will also provide valuable research that can benefit coastal communities, fish farmers, and policymakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Chairman of the House Committee on Ocean and Fisheries, Hon. Akarachi Amadi noted that strengthening research institutions and expanding access to specialised education are critical to unlocking the enormous economic potential of Nigeria’s marine and inland water resources. He emphasized that investments in research and human capital development would improve productivity, encourage innovation, attract investment, and position the country to compete more effectively in the global fisheries and maritime industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consideration of both reports underscores Hon. Akarachi Amadi’s continued commitment to advancing legislative initiatives that promote sustainable economic development, strengthen critical national institutions, and support policies capable of creating jobs, enhancing food security, and driving long-term growth in Nigeria’s fisheries and marine sectors.
