On Saturday, 31st January 2026<\/strong>, the Mbaitoli\/Ikeduru Federal Constituency recorded another major milestone in community development with the successful completion of Phase One of the Operation Light Up Mbaike initiative<\/strong>, a solar-powered streetlight distribution program aimed at improving safety, security, and quality of life across the constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, championed by the Honourable Member representing Mbaitoli\/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Akarachi Amadi<\/strong>, saw the distribution of 2,500 solar-powered streetlights<\/strong> to 23 autonomous communities<\/strong> spanning both Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Local Government Areas. The program is designed as a long-term intervention to address the persistent challenge of poor street lighting, which has affected security, night-time mobility, and commercial activities within communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a Lingering Community Challenge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For years, many communities across Mbaitoli and Ikeduru have struggled with inadequate or non-existent street lighting, largely due to unreliable electricity supply and rising energy costs. This situation has exposed residents to security risks, limited night-time economic activities, and reduced overall community well-being. Operation Light Up Mbaike was conceived as a practical, sustainable response to these challenges\u2014leveraging renewable energy to deliver lasting impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this first phase, solar streetlights were distributed to the following autonomous communities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mbaitoli Autonomous Communities:<\/strong>
Ihitte Mbieri, Eziama-Obiato, Umuagha, Umunne-ato, Ubahaeze, Obi Orodo, Alaeze Ogwa, Isi Ogwa Idem, Amaike Mbieri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ikeduru Autonomous Communities:<\/strong>
Eziama, Asaa, Ngugo, Umualumaku, Uzoagba, Ebikoro, Umuhu, Awo Ohii Dim, Umuiri, Umuofor, Amaimo Ancient, Akabo, Owuala Avuvu, Amala Avuvu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders were present during the distribution exercise, expressing appreciation for the initiative and describing it as timely and impactful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable Impact and Community Benefits<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The distributed solar streetlights are expected to significantly enhance night-time visibility, improve security, reduce crime risks, and stimulate local businesses that operate after dark. Beyond security, the project also supports environmental sustainability by promoting clean, renewable energy solutions at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Engr. Akarachi Amadi reaffirmed that Operation Light Up Mbaike goes beyond politics, emphasizing service, consistency, and compassion as the guiding principles behind the program.
